HISTORY OF BUAEC

The Institute for National Transformation (INT) International launched the Youth Empowerment in Agripreneurship Programme (YEAP) at Akwa Ibom State University, Nigeria, from January 2022 to May 2023. They established the Centre for Ethical and Moral Leadership (CEMoL) to coordinate with local agricultural bodies. CEMoL trained 49 youths in various agribusiness sectors, with 45 successfully starting their businesses. Each participant received a $1,000 start-up fund.

In October 2023, Professor Anigbogu introduced the program to the President of Uganda, who invited INT to implement it in Uganda. A proposal led by Professor Anigbogu, in collaboration with Busitema University and Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat - Office of the President , led to the creation of the Busitema University Agro Entrepreneurship Centre (BUAEC) in Uganda. On May 8, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni approved the proposal, supported by Dr. Monica Musereno Mansaza, the Honourable Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

On May 9, 2024, H.E. President Museveni shared on X:

" Prof Vincent Anigbogu and his dear wife visited me at State House, Entebbe. We had stimulating discussions on a number of issues. I welcome his idea of potential collaboration opportunities in skilling the youth based on the one and four-acre models of agriculture. I particularly like the phased approach by region he suggests, starting in the Eastern part of the country. I am confident that we shall benefit from his model of transformational leadership."
